Meet Bruce, king of our farm, and a total hen's rooster; wherever Bruce goes the ladies aren't far away. He and the girls wander the farmyard in search of insects and other delights to feast on.

I have to admit I never really saw myself as living on a farm, it was always so much back breaking work for my family members that did farm. Until we bought our 26-acre home in upstate New York 14 years ago, I never really considered the rewards that came with the job, or that you can have a farm as big or small as you want to make it. Granted what I have is a simple hobby farm, with chickens, ducks, and at one time honeybees; until a bear took care of them, it's plenty big enough starting off for me and my family.
Beyond the birds we have a garden which has been a bit of a struggle getting in this year do to the cold weather and rain that we've been plagued with early this year, but it is going and has been a bit of a project, as I took a section of the yard at the end of our house and started working on turning it into a vision I've had brewing in my head for some time but never really had any direction on how I wanted to get it there.
Now with everything in full swing and what's been a lot of work, I'm getting something established, in between Mother Nature's desire to make life difficult. I keep my chin up though, and do what I can and with summer in full view the cold is now behind us, for now, and the rain seems to be my biggest contender. What I do have going, loves it though, and I couldn't be happier.
